Harden
More that 155 years ago, Charles Harden, founded the
Harden Furniture Company. Harden began primarily as
a logging and lumbering operation which built bridges
over the Erie Canal and for the Erie and Western Railroads.
The operation of that business was restricted to the
warmer months. During the winter months, they began
producing the popular Windsor Chair. Over the years,
they never forgot that they were located in the heart
of some of the world’s greatest hardwood forests.
As the company grew, they began to purchase some of
the woodlands, eventually accumulating over 25,000 acres.
Harden hired their own crew of foresters to manage the
land efficiently. Sawmills and kilns were also built
to handle an excess of 6 million board feet of lumber
per year.
